As the body ages, it naturally loses elasticity that can result in an excess of loose skin. Additionally, extreme weight loss, pregnancy, or weakened stomach muscles can leave the skin sagging leaving many men and women dissatisfied with their appearance. For clients looking to remove excess skin and contour and tighten the abdomen area, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) may be the right choice. Dr. Polynice understands that making the decision to undergo this surgery can be transformative and empowering, but also nerve-wracking.

Dr. Polynice believes that listening to his clients about what they are looking to achieve is just as important as executing the procedure itself. His goal is always to provide clients with an outcome that aligns their vision with their reality.

TUMMY TUCK INFO

A tummy tuck can restore a youthful appearance to the abdominal areas in the right candidates. When it comes to abdominoplasty, attention to detail is critical: it is important that the belly button maintains a natural shape and that the scars are low enough to be well hidden under your favorite underwear or bikini. The abdominoplasty procedure incorporates three components — removal of excess skin, liposuction of the abdomen, flanks and waist, and tightening of the abdominal muscles. The best candidates for Tummy Tuck surgery have pockets of fat or loose, sagging skin that have not responded well to diet and/or exercise. Dr. Polynice will help determine if this operation is the best procedure to address your desires and aesthetic goals.

SANTA BARBARA TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURE

Performed under general anesthesia with a licensed anesthetist overseeing the procedure, this surgery takes around two to three hours.

A tummy tuck is oftentimes done in tandem with a breast augmentationbreast lift, or mommy makeover. Dr. Polynice will discuss the best way to achieve your desired aesthetic during your consultation.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Expect to feel tired and sore after the procedure. There will be postoperative discomfort, but it is important that the client do their best to walk around soon after surgery in order to prevent blood clots.

Clients can typically return to work within two weeks, though strenuous activity should be avoided for an additional 4-6 weeks. After the procedure you may go home, it is advised that a capable adult stay with you for a 24-hour period following the surgery to monitor recovery. Postoperative pain, swelling, and sensitivity will diminish over the first few weeks and scars from the incisions will begin to fade in the months that follow.
